Dental implants have revolutionized dentistry and in many cases provide an excellent way to replace missing teeth. In addition, dental implants can make a world of difference to those who wear dentures, allowing for a more secure, confident bite and smile.
Dental implants are specially formulated titanium anchors that are surgically placed into the upper or lower jaw bone. The crowns attached to implants are very natural looking and often enhance or restore a patient’s smile!
Dental implants are strong and durable. On occasion, the implant crowns will have to be re-tightened or replaced due to normal wear.
Reasons for dental implants:
Replace one or more missing teeth without affecting adjacent teeth.
Secure Ill-fitting or loose dentures.
What does getting dental implants involve?
The process of getting implants typically requires a number of visits over several months.
Radiographs (X-rays) and impressions (molds) are taken of the jaw and teeth to determine bone support, gum tissue, and spacing available for an implant. These models are often mounted onto an articulator that simulates your bite. This allows Dr. Brimhall to evaluate your case to help to determine the best course of treatment in your particular case.
At the appointment for placement, the implant site is gently numbed. The implant is surgically placed into the bone and usually allowed to heal and integrate itself for several months. It is possible to have a replacement tooth fabricated during the healing phase. The recovery to implant placement is very similar to having a tooth extracted. It is common to have some swelling and discomfort.
You will receive care instructions when your treatment is completed. Good oral hygiene and eating habits, alongside regular dental visits, will aid in the longevity of new implants.
Dr. Brimhall not only restores implants, but also places implants. The main point of emphasis is to provide unsurpassed care to ensure the best possible outcome. In certain circumstances, the amount or quality of bone present requires additional and/or advanced procedures to provide the greatest chance of success. In such situations, Dr. Brimhall works closely with very caring and competent specialists, who share his vision and dedication to patient care and clinical excellence.
